FRONTERA – TIJUANA – 06/25/09

Two armored vehicles apparently belonging to “El Teo” are seized:  A red panel truck appearing to be a Calafia and a patrol vehicle from the Rosarito Municipal Police were found to be armored within and conditioned for armed encounters.

Agents of the Federal Police informed that the vehicles were seized Tuesday night on Blvd. Diaz Ordaz near the subdelegation Los Piños.  The two men who were driving the vehicles were detained.

The interiors of the vehicles were found to be reinforced with metal plates that practically converted them into tanks.  Also, the back doors had hatch-type slits where a person could shoot while being protected.  According to the federal agents, the vehicles without a doubt were designed to participate in armed encounters.  Up to ten armed persons could fit in the cab.  With the apparent markings of official vehicles they could pass unnoticed.

Extra-officially the agent mentioned that the detainees gave the names Juan Diego Rodriguez and Rodolfo Villa Castro, who very likely could belong to an organized crime cell.

According to the authorities, the vehicles had not been used, they appeared to be new.  Also no bullet holes were noted and the interior showed no signs of attack.
