PROPOSAL FOR COMPREHENSIVE IMMIGRATION
ENFORCEMENT AND REFORM

******************************
Readers, a brief message.  I’ve developed some heart issues which are leaving me with little stamina.  That coupled with new meds are making it tough to maintain the same pace as in the past.  Shortly before Christmas, the doctors should have all their tests done, and hopefully will be able to treat the problems.  I put this issue together over the weekend.

MESSAGE FOR U.S. CITIZENS: MANAGUA (NICARAGUA), DENGUE OUTBREAK

The U.S. Embassy in Managua informs U.S. citizens that on October 24, 2013 SINAPRED, the Nicaraguan disaster control agency, declared a “sanitary red alert” due to an increase in the number of people arriving at local hospitals with dengue fever and in the number of deaths of previously healthy young adults from dengue hemorrhagic fever. This message serves to remind U.S. citizens of the risk of dengue and steps to take to attempt to prevent contracting it. More at link below:

SECURITY MESSAGE FOR U.S. CITIZENS: NASSAU (BAHAMAS), ARMED ROBBERIES IN FREEPORT, GRAND BAHAMA

The U.S. Embassy in Nassau advises U.S. citizens residing in and traveling to Freeport, Grand Bahama, to be aware of their surroundings and remain on heightened alert to avoid being a victim of crime. On the night of November 5, two men robbed two U.S. citizens in their hotel room; one of the men carried a machete (or “cutlass”). There have been two prior incidents this year of an assailant armed with a machete robbing U.S. tourists. On September 22, a couple was robbed at machete-point in the afternoon on Barbary Beach. Previously, on June 1, another couple was robbed on Barbary Beach under the same circumstances. In both cases, the single assailant held a machete to the throat of one of the victims and demanded cash. More at link below:

A report in the “Excelsior” newspaper (Mexico City, 11/8/13) states that Mexican police just freed 61 persons being held hostage by 4 individuals in Reynosa, State of Tamaulipas, Mexico. This is just across from McAllen, TX, and not far upriver from Brownsville. The rescued group, all of whom were said to be have been wanting to cross into the United States, had been held for a week and included 20 Salvadorans, 27 Hondurans, 7 Mexicans, 3 Guatemalans and 3 Nicaraguans. Inexplicably, the last subject was said to be a U.S. citizen.

The following is a full translation of the last three paragraphs of an opinion column titled :”Mexico and the U.S.: in the 21st century, more geo-strategy than geo-economy?”
The article appears in “La Jornada” (Mexico City, 11/7/13) and was authored by Soledad Loaeza.

The first two paragraphs deal with the historic inevitability of the variety of relations between adjacent countries, all dealing to how Mexico could strengthen its position when dealing with the United States. The Spanish language original can be seen at:
