NUEVO LAREDO, TAMAULIPAS

The newspaper El Manaña has announced it will no longer publish news of violence due to several attacks with guns and grenades against them. (Editor’s Note: This is one of the reasons that Mexicans and this publication have become more dependent on blogs, Twitter and other social media such as Facebook for news as it happens in Mexico.)

CIUDAD VICTORIA, TAMAULIPAS

There was a strong explosion against the state police facilities, with no further details. The Mexican military thwarted an ambush against the state police chief. Recently, there was an attack against his home with a car bomb which killed two state police agents serving as his bodyguards. there were chases and shootouts, with the bad guys throwing out tire-deflating “spikes” called caltrops.

CORDOBA, VERACRUZ

Two municipal police officers have been detained by Mexican Marines for criminal involvement. (Mexican Marines assumed primary policing duties in Veracruz some time ago due to the police corruption.)

ZACATECAS. ZACATECAS

Three gunmen were killed and 3 arrested after a number of violent encounters the end of he week. Two state police were wounded during the encounters. Residents were advised not to leave their homes unless necessary.

ACAPULCO, GUERRERO*

MATAMOROS, TAMAULIPAS

TORREON, COAHUILA

The 60 year old mother and 6 year old daughter of a municipal policewoman were executed in their home. A girl of 12 was wounded with bullets to her buttocks.

SINALOA

The governor of the State of Sinaloa has asked the Mexican Defense department for better weapons for their police. He cited the recent ambush which left 7 officers dead, partly due to the cartel’s superior fire power (better weapons). He also related the three ambush attacks on highways which killed a total of 25 officers. He pointed out the gunmen used automatic rifles and armor, which put the police at a disadvantage. For this reason he specifically asked for AK 47’s and the .50 Caliber Barrett rifle (which can defeat armor).
