Gunmen assassinated the deputy mayor here. He was also a school teacher. His wife was unharmed.
PAN mayor, Martín Padua Zúñiga, was captured after a shootout in Minatitlan, southern Veracruz with Zetas. Weapons and cocaine were also seized.
Three headless bodies were found in the trunk of a car. Authorities were not releasing any other information.
SAN MARCOS, GUERRERO
A trainer for the federal electoral institute was shot and killed as he headed for Monte Alba. The woman trainer with him was unharmed. The IFE condemned the violent acts and pledged to assist the investigation.
A 30 year old father was shot and killed during a home invasion, and his 6 year old daughter was gravely wounded and is still fighting for her life.
This past Thursday, 12 people were killed over a 12 hour period. Only 3 of those have been identified.
A report from the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCR) says that 160,000 people were displaced in 2011 due to cartels fighting for control of routes. It estimated that 24, 500 have left their homes this year solely in Ciudad Juarez.
LOS MOCHIS, SINALOA
A municipal police officer for the municipality of Ahome was attacked and injured. One of the suspect vehicles was located later in the same area.
MONTERREY, NUEVO LEÓN
Eleven suspected members of the Gulf Cartel linked to 21 murders and five kidnappings were arrested at the airport in Monterrey, in the northern Mexican state of Nuevo Leon, officials said. They were returning from vacation with 80 relatives in Cancun. The leader confessed to kidnappings and the murders.
CIUDAD JUAREZ, CHIHUAHUA
Between Tuesday and Thursday last week, there were 8 women slain. All were shot.
Two men were found here that had their hands and feet tied, had been tortured with acid on their faces and elsewhere, and finally were shot and killed.
CADAREYTA, NUEVO LEÓN
Three municipal employees repairing a water pipe were shot and killed. One worker was under the pipe, another beside it and the third beside their vehicle.
