In Durango, 243 Bodies Wait to be Identified

(In preparing these reports, it is impossible to ignore the overwhelming number of dead and the lack of closure for so many families that will never know the fate of their missing loved one.

(MEXICO) In Durango, 500 people are waiting to identify 243 bodies found in clandestine narco graves there. Although only 3 have been identified so far, families have not lost hope of finding their missing family among the rest of the exhumed bodies.

Don Pedro Valles Soria is one of those interested to know the identity of those disinterred. His son, Fernando, disappeared while driving his truck near Vicente Guerrero in Zacatecas. With sadness, he remembers the date, December 15, 2010, when he received the notice that the truck had been found, with the doors wide open.

At 76 years old, don Pedro has asked God to protect his son and to support him in his anguish and uncertainty, and to know if his son was one of those buried in the seven clandestine graves.

“My son never did bad things; he was a good boy that took care of calves and horses. He helped me because I can’t work, now I have to work to take care of my wife that is very sick.”

Poanas (where his son went missing) is considered by authorities as the most violent municipalities’s of Zacatecas, a crossing point used by organized crime to consummate executions and disappearances.

A man responsible for the roster of the bodies, whose face showed fatigue, told CNN that they realized they would need genetic exams. He said to the Señor, you do not need to stay, it will take three months, return to your home and we will communicate with you.”

Each week, Pedro Valles crosses the aisles of the office, where the two refrigerated trucks contain the white bags, each one with human remains, some rotten, some skeletons.

“Hope dies last” says the 70 year old, reflecting on the emotional burden that each one of the people (men, women, children) who roam the morgue, thinking that their missing relative have been found and without being identified.

Relatives of missing people, disappointed by the authorities

The coordinator of the Commission for Victims of Violence in the state, Ismelda Flores revealed that the total number of people registered for genetic tests in the prosecutor’s office (500), have only received 40 affected , who were immediately taken care of a psychologically and legally , he explained in an interview CNNMéxico.

Almost two weeks after it began operations with this project, which was implemented by the state government with the aim of providing care to relatives of missing persons, the head of the commission acknowledged that there is slow flow in the figure helped because many people are unaware of the institution .

He said the legal and medical equipment is properly prepared for when the authorities begin to identify bodies after the taking fingerprints, using anthropology and genetics experts.

“People that have come to this commission feel let down by the authorities of law enforcement, and loaded with pain, sadness and resentment, “said Ismelda Flores.

AIDS Rafael Rosales, who is spokesman on security issues for the state, did not rule out the existence of civil servants and others among the bodies recovered from the illegal graves.

Both the Ministry of Public Security of the State (SSPE) and the Attorney General’s Office (EGF), have received inquiries from other agencies (Chihuahua, Sinaloa, Nayarit and Coahuila), regarding the discovery of the bodies that were buried.

In Durango, no one has been arrested and the number of bodies exhumed is increasing , the last found was recorded Thursday afternoon, when recovering a corpse from the clandestine grave located in the Valle del Guadiana neighborhood, east of the city.

The number of dead found in seven mass graves identified by federal police and military in the city of Durango was raised to 243 corpses.

The first grave was found on April 11th in a field of the fractionation Las Fuentes.

A total of 106 bodies that were kept in coolers Semefo were labeled and placed in makeshift wooden crates then buried in special tombs of the municipal cemetery.

Human remains will remain buried until the process is completed with the results.

For the 193 bodies found in 47 narco graves in San Fernando, Tamaulipas, 21 have been incarcerated pending trial.-CNN Mexico

(Each time an item refers to another police officer being killed, including military acting in that capacity, there will be an asterisk*.)

Warning: Graphic photos. Viewer discretion advised.

CIUDAD JUAREZ, CHIHUAHUA

Three young men were chased by gunmen for several blocks, and then executed 3 blocks from a municipal police station.

CULIACAN, SINALOA

The famous clairvoyant Oli Alonso, full name Olivia Marta Alonso Perez, was executed in her office, located in her home. Several months ago, a former government official, Luis Perez Hernandez, was at her place when gunmen entered and took him. His executed body was found in Guamuchil.

GUADALUPE, NUEVO LEÓN

Another violent attack in this place that has been affected by frequent attacks. Gunmen that were in various vehicles arrived at a public plaza, parked and lined up three men against a wall, then executed them all. Police and investigators found casings from AK-47s at the scene, and on the wall near the bodies, the killers had sprayed a narco graffiti of CDG (Gulf Cartel).

YURÉCUARO, MICHOACÁN

Authorities received an anonymous call of a barrel on the edge of a farm field. On arrival, the body of a dismembered man was found inside. He remains unidentified.

CULIACAN, SINALOA

Three people, two men and an 18 year old woman, were executed and their bodies dumped. Two were identified, as there were witnesses when they were kidnapped.

CIUDAD JUAREZ, CHIHUAHUA

A young man was shot and killed in broad daylight in front of multiple witnesses.  (The primary reason for including this is to use the photo, which shows children watching the forensics team. In reporting these incidents, so many reports have failed to show the physical closeness of children who witness the worst possible grotesque scenes. One wonders what effect this will have on them, and indeed, is it creating the foundations for them to become tomorrow’s assassins.)

CANCUN, QUINTANA ROO

After a shootout with an armed group, one of the gunmen was captured. He confessed that there were two butchered men in a home, and gave them the address. No further information was released. Cancun has had many killings, but not the levels of savagery seen elsewhere, such as Acapulco and Monterrey. The government will likely try to minimize this so as not to affect their ‘tourist’ income they depend on.

CANCUN, QUINTANA ROO

Federal police on Wednesday captured the Zetas leader for Cancun, Rodolfo Bautista, aka El Calabaza, and four other Zetas. A municipal police officer who served as protection for the Zetas was also caught.

VERACRUZ, VERACRUZ

Gunmen attempted to assassinate the Veracruz Chief of Police. Two men were killed, which the Chief, Sergio Lopez Esquer, was unharmed. No other information has been released.

MEXICALI, BAJA CALIFORNIA

State Police received an anonymous call of a cartel safe house. No arrests were made, but a cloned Red Cross ambulance was found.
