XALAPA, VERACRUZ, MEXICO

The Governor of the State of Veracruz stripped 800 police officers from the municipalities of Xalapa-Banderilla-San Andrés Tlanehuayocan of their ID’s, badges, weapons and equipment, and dissolved the departments. Police services will be handled by the state agencies. He previously did the same in the municipalities of Panuco, La Antigua, Rafael Lucio, and Tampico Alto. The Governor said that this shows that in the state there is no crime with impunity. -Milenio

BAJA CALIFORNIA

The beach destinations in the state (San Felipe, Ensenada, Rosarito) showed a rise in hotel occupancy during the Memorial Day weekend, said Juan Tintos Funcke, Secretary of Tourism in the State. “No way we can say that this is a recovery, but we can see good signs of improvement in the indicators,” said the state official.-La voz de la Frontera

MORELIA, MICHOACAN

Over 1,300 residents have fled villages to escape violence in the western state of Michoacan. (Often police in rural areas and the smaller villages of Mexico may not even be armed as they can’t afford to buy their own weapons or ammo.) State officials opened shelters for the people, until they were able to return.-Diario and others

The state attorney general has reopened excavations at the 7 clandestine mass graves, and another body has been found. That brings the count to 224 found since April 11.-Milenio

MEXICO

Areas of the country from the rain forests near Cancun to Coahuila, Tamaulipas and westward are dealing with continuing wildfires caused by lack of rain and temperatures as high as 115°F. Over the weekend, three teen fire fighters lost in the rain forest of Quintana Roo, northwest of Cancun, were found by family and 200 volunteers after being lost several days.-Milenio and others. (These fires can indirectly affect the US through destruction of produce growing areas, including flooding caused by no vegetation, which washes away top soil for agriculture. Thus increasing prices and causing shortages if all produce is needed for their own.)

COLOMBIA

FARC militants kidnapped and then killed two Mayoral candidates while they campaigned.-Xinhua

(Each time an item refers to another police officer being killed, including military acting in that capacity, there will be an asterisk.)

CIUDAD JUAREZ, CHIHUAHUA*

About one week after being named the commander of the Benito Juárez station for the Municipal Police, Lieutenant José Manuel Rivas López, was gunned down as he walked into his home.

CIUDAD JUAREZ, CHIHUAHUA

Police Chief Leyzaola challenges members of the Sinaloa Cartel, after learning of the arrest of 4 men for the assassination of the commander of the Benito Juarez municipal police station (Above). Also in the past few days, Leyzaola has worked from that station , after officers said they were too afraid to work there. The Chief continued to say that there is no doubt in his mind that his agency still has bad cops working for organized crime, and “That makes us vulnerable to attack, we cannot have corrupt people in the Police and I will fire them soon.”.

MONTERREY, NUEVO LEÓN

Narco banners directed to the state Governor, Rodrigo Medina, were hung in the city, one near Sam’s Club. The messages complained that the prisons have been infiltrated by the Gulf Cartel, and named the exact prisons. The message professed to be signed by ‘guards’.

CARDENAS, TABASCO

Grenades were thrown at stores in a shopping mall, causing panic and injuring a store employee. A card was also found, separately from the incident here, from the Zetas saying that the military and police would not get to work. The Zetas are increasing actions to cause panic and terrorize the population of the state of Tabasco.

GUADALUPE, NUEVO LEÓN

Again, a narcomessage has been left for Mayor Ivonne Alvarez. As with the two recent times, a message was left with the head only of a woman inside an abandoned taxi not far from the traffic section of the police.

NUEVO LEÓN

Bloody Thursday leaves at least 10 dead. One incident left 5 men gunned down, and 5 others wounded including 5 year old. Other bodies continued to be found 1-2 at time. In photos, note the agents with weapons ready even with the number of them present.

ACAPULCO, GUERRERO

Three bodies left executed in car outside Palladium Nightclub. Two women were found in the trunk when blood was seen running from it onto the ground, with the other body in the rear seat.

TECPAN DE GALEANA, GUERRERO

Four men beheaded after being tortured.  Another man was shot and a public transport bus was torched nearby.

APATZINGAN, MICHOACAN

Members of La Familia Michoacana were having a meeting, and fired on a Federal Police helicopter, wounding two agents and forcing it to land, but only after killing 15 gunmen. They arrested 39 cartel members, and seized 70 guns including a .50 Cal. Barrett, 14 handguns, grenades, 40 ballistic vests, over 21,000 rounds of ammo, radio equipment and more.

CANCUN, QUINTANA ROO

Ten Zetas captured with weapons, ammo, cell phones and more.

APATZINGAN, MICHOACAN

Military helicopter took off for an operation against a cartel group, reported problems and crashed injuring 3 on board the craft. Authorities would say no more.

ACAPULCO, GUERRERO

Armed gunmen entered a nightclub, and began shooting, wounding four. Outside, a vehicle was torched.

CIUDAD JUAREZ, CHIHUAHUA

Two of the four arrested for executing the police commander (above) were themselves executed within 2 hrs of arriving at the holding jail. The other two were saved by jail officers.
