Mexico gunmen kill American consulate staff

Gunmen in the drug war-plagued Mexican city of Ciudad Juarez killed two Americans and a Mexican linked to the local U.S. consulate, an attack U.S. President Barack Obama said “outraged” him.

An American woman working at the consulate in Ciudad Juarez, just over the border from El Paso, Texas, and her U.S. husband were fatally shot by suspected drug gang hitmen in broad daylight on Saturday as they left a consulate social event, U.S. and Mexican officials told Reuters.

A Mexican man married to another consulate employee was killed around the same time in another part of the city after he and his wife left the same event, a U.S. official said.

The attack on the U.S. couple began with a car chase and ended in front of the main border crossing into El Paso, an area heavily patrolled by soldiers, local newspaper El Diario reported. The couple’s baby girl survived the attack.

The Mexican spouse was murdered in an upscale neighborhood of the city when gunmen boxed in his car with other vehicles and shot him, according to a local newspaper photographer who soon arrived at the scene. His wife, who was following in a second car, was unhurt, but their two children were wounded (photo relates).

Note:  There will be more details to come from Mexican news media.

Business extorted in the name of Los Zetas

Thugs, claiming to be Zetas,  have taken advantage of the fear generated by images of bloody corpses and threatening messages left by the cartels to extort money from businessmen, some of whom have paid up to 30,000 pesos to not have any problems.  Officials say that the extortionists may not even be Zetas, but advise caution none-the-less.

A violent night in Sinaloa

A young man was driving around alone in a black Jetta when he was fired upon by thugs in another vehicle.  The young man was hit by gunshots when he jumped from the Jetta and ran.   Nevertheless he managed to get to a nearby house and subsequently was taken  to a hospital.  A few minutes later another group of triggermen traveling in four pickups
intercepted a man and a woman in another vehicle.  They drove to a municipal police station where the gunmen fired AK-47’s.  The gunfire wounded the man and woman and the car went out of control into a bank.  The driver died and the gunmen disappeared into the streets. The woman was transported to a hospital and was admitted.

Senator urges Obama

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) urges Obama to show some fight to reform immigration.  Graham was critical of Obama during an interview with ABC (T.V.) concerning the fight to permit undocumented people to legalize in the USA.  “President Obama, fight to present a reform package to the House of Representatives and see how many Democrats and Republicans can agree”.

On March 21, pro-immigrant groups totaling some 100,000 people are preparing a march on Washington to demand immigration reform.

“All you have done is talk about what we have to do, now is the time to
fight. Tell the people next weekend that your administration will proceed
with immigration reform”, said Graham.   Without giving a date, Democrat Senator Schumer will soon present an  immigration reform plan without the help of more Republican Senators.

Democrat Luis Gutierrez is advancing a plan in the House of Representatives.

A fight for immigration reform in the Senate failed in 2007 due to failure
to get a political Consensus.

In an item in our March 8 M3 Report, it read in a way that might lead one to believe that a total of 15 persons, including 5 policemen, were murdered in the city of Morelia, Michoacán, in three assaults against criminal organizations by local security forces.

In fact, while the numbers were correct, the actions took place in the Mexican states of Nuevo Leon and Michoacán, and were all initiated by criminal organizations over a three day period.  They were just being reported by a media outlet in Morelia.

 We regret the error.
