Frontera (Tijuana, Baja Calif.) 7/7/08
There were seven homicides by gunfire in various areas of Tijuana between Saturday night and Sunday before dawn.
Norte (Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua) 7/7/08
Around 40% of the Juarez “municipal public security” personnel (police officers, radio operators, emergency phone line operators) will be dismissed in the next few days for failure to pass various tests including polygraph, psychological, criminal background, financial resource accountability and drug usage. There are now recruitment invitations to young men in shopping areas to apply to the police academy.
Cuarto Poder (Tuxtla, Chiapas) 7/7/08
– The “INM” (Mex. Immigr.) local office at Comitan, Chiapas, reported they “intercepted” 480 aliens “without papers” who had crossed the border into Mexico to travel to the United States. Almost all were Central Americans.
– The chief of the Tuxtla (state capital of Chiapas) state police tactical group was executed and found inside a car, hands and feet tied. He’d been shot several times including the coup de grace. A threatening “narcomessage” addressed to two other high ranking state law enforcement officials was left with the corpse.
El Debate , Noroeste (both Culiacan, Sinaloa) 7/7/08
Two decapitated bodies were found Sunday morning on the highway a few miles south of Culiacan, Sinaloa. Both were in plastic bags and tied with tape. A few yards away were their heads. Three threatening messages were left with the bodies. In one week there have now been thirty-one homicides , nine of them by beheading, in various parts of the Culiacan area. The year’s tally for Sinaloa is now five hundred homicide victims. (The attachment to this report is a relating photo)
El Porvenir (Monterrey, Nuevo Leon) 7/7/08
The state of Michoacan’s rash of executions continued over the weekend. Two men were dumped on the Morelia-Patzcuaro highway after having been shot several times. One ended up on the slow lane, the other on the road’s shoulder. That makes twelve in 48 hours there.
